Physical Education

The key objective in this area is the full participation of all pupils in a broad and balanced programme of activities which are accessible and challenging.
We are currently using the Sutton borough scheme of work, “Learning to Move, Moving to Learn”, and T.O.P.S.

We endeavour to teach children to develop positive attitudes, to observe the conventions of fair play, honest competition and good sporting behaviour as individual participants, team members and spectators.

Sports Facilities

The school has a large hall with Gym Time Apparatus. The hall is used for gymnastics, dance and indoor games. The school has a playing field, which is situated behind St Mary’s Infant School in West Street. The field has a football pitch during the autumn and spring terms and a grass running track during the summer term. Games activities also take place on our two playgrounds and the playing field, in addition to benefitting from some of the sports facilities at St. Philomena’s

Swimming is an important part of the curriculum. The Year 4, 5 and 6 classes have swimming instruction at Westcroft swimming pool. We are most grateful to the parents, upon whose assistance we rely, for escorting children. Pupils also have the opportunity to take part in competitive swimming activities.
